RHS sports recap: Saturday, Sept. 30
Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 1st/14, Fond du Lac Invite
The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team won four events and took home the title at the 14-team Fond du Lac Invite on Saturday.
Abi Winnicki won the 200-yard individual medley for Rhinelander while Celia Francis was tops in the 100 backstroke. Rhinelander also claimed the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Winnicki was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly, Karis Francis was second in both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Vivian Lamers was second in the 50 freestyle and the Hodags took second in the 400 freestyle relay. Ellyse Younker was third in the 100 butterfly and Kiley Pooch took third in the 100 backstroke.
Rhinelander returns to action Thursday at Colby/Abbotsford.
Volleyball: Rhinelander 1-3, Hodag Invite
The Hodag volleyball team went 1-3 on Saturday and finished in fourth place at its home invite.
Rhinelander started the day with a 28-26, 18-25, 15-10 win over Chequamegon, but then fell to Auburndale (25-11, 25-19), Shawano (25-7, 25-7) and Green Bay Southwest (25-17, 25-16).
Kelsi Beran had 12 kills, nine aces and three blocks on the day for Rhinelander. Lily Treder added 11 blocks and 10 digs, Lucy Lindner had 23 assists and Emma Chiamulera had 26 digs.
Rhinelander (13-17, 1-6 Great Northern) hosts Tomahawk on Tuesday.
