Bob Vig will speak about his dad Ced Vig’s legacy during a special Rhinelander District Library Foundation (RDLF) program to be held in honor of the 38th year of the Ced Vig Holiday Book Fund.
The program will take place at 1 p.m. December 1 in the lower level meeting room of the Rhinelander District Library.
“Thirty-eight years ago Ced Vig started asking his friends in the community to celebrate the holidays by giving a book to the Rhinelander District Library,” according to an RDLF press release. “His idea became the Holiday Book Fund, which currently funds about 1/3 of the books RDL provides each year. The fund grew during Ced’s lifetime by the sheer force of Ced’s will and dedication, and after his death in 2010, at the age of 98, by the efforts of the Rhinelander District Library Foundation, which are now the stewards of the fundraising campaign. During his time, he signed every one of the nearly 500 letters sent to prospective donors, penning personal notes to each person who gave the previous year. He visited the library almost daily to check on the fund’s status, looking for familiar names and taking delight in the new names that crop up on the donor list with each new year.”
The Rhinelander District Library Foundation hopes to raise $20,000 for books this year in honor of Ced Vig.
The public is encouraged to attend the program and hear Bob Vig share memories of his father and his enduring legacy.
