Hodag alum Martin earns first-team All-WIAC honors again

Drake Martin, a native of Rhinelander, who is studying physical education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is one of 17 members of the Warhawk football team who were selected All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2023 season, the conference announced last week.

Moving from running back to tight end this fall, Martin found a home in the Warhawk offense. He hauled in 18 catches for 202 yards and registered a pair of receiving touchdowns. Martin was one of two Whitewater tight ends and three offensive linemen honored by the WIAC after the Warhawks led the conference in rushing this season.

It marks the seconds straight year that Martin has earned first-team honors from the conference. He was earned that honor on special teams a season ago.

Martin finished his career at No. 2 all-time on Rhinelander career rushing list and was part of the 2019 Rhinelander team that posted the school’s first winning season since 1994. Whitewater (9-1) finished second in the WIAC this year behind UW-La Crosse.
