Walter Emil Grill Jr. passed away peacefully at home in Rhinelander on November 3, 2023, surrounded by his wife along with his little sidekick Skipper.
Wally was born on April 12, 1949, in Rhinelander, and attended schools there graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1967.
After his schooling he moved to Kenosha where he met and married his first wife Patricia (Henthorn) Grill. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. It was in Germany where his daughter Renae was born. Upon his honorable discharge in 1972 he returned home to Kenosha and went to work for Johnson Motors and then Johns Manville. It was in Kenosha where he was blessed with his son Ryan. He then moved to Mondovi and worked for Marten Transport as a diesel mechanic.
While in Mondovi Wally met his current wife, Cheryl Neisius. Wally retired in August of 2017 and moved back to Rhinelander where he would enjoy the things he loved which were fishing, camping and the love of his family.
Wally is survived by his wife Cheryl (Neisius) Grill, his daughter Renae L. (Jeff Kraft) Grill, his grandchildren Dylan Gardinier, Cheyanne Carlton and Alexis Grill, his great-grandchild Alani Renae Gardinier, his sisters Gail Wogsland, Karen (Ron) Engels, Judie (Tim) Haenel, his brothers Gary (Kathy) Grill and Harvey Grill.
Preceding him in death are his parents Walter E. Grill & Gertrude E. (Olsen) Grill, his son Ryan L. Grill, first wife Patricia Ann (Henthorn) Grill and his brother-in-law Doug Wogsland.
Visitation for Wally will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023 from 9 to 11 a.m., with funeral services following at 11 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences for the Grill family at www.carlsonfh.com.
