Stephen “Steve” Glenn Marshall, 72, of Hudson, and a former resident of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023.
Steve was born March 11, 1951, in Crandon, to Glenn and Carol Marshall. His family moved to Rhinelander when he was a toddler. Steve was proud to be a Hodag and lived in Rhinelander most of his life.
Steve was blessed with two sons, Michael (Eau Claire) and Derek (Rhinelander), and one grandson, Jase (Rhinelander). Jase was the light of Steve’s later years and brought him much joy.
Steve graduated from Rhinelander Union High School in 1969. He completed his bachelor’s degree and did post-graduate studies at UW-Oshkosh. After college, he returned to Rhinelander to start his professional career with the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services. He stayed in the same department until retirement.
Steve enjoyed his status as the oldest child and being a big brother. He was always a very social person enjoying time with family and friends, as well as meeting new people as he traveled for work and leisure.
Steve had a traumatic brain injury that changed his life in 2011. Though he struggled for the remainder of his life with the challenges of the brain damage and seizure disorder that resulted from this injury, he never gave up.
Steve is survived by his sons and grandson; his mother, Carol Marshall of Altoona; two sisters: Deborah (Jeffrey) Hansen and Elizabeth (Erik) Larsen, all of Eau Claire; two brothers; Daniel of Lyndon Station and Gregory (Bridget) of Menomonie; sister-in-law; Kathleen Marshall of Oshkosh. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews and a very large extended family.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Glenn and brother, Christopher.
Steve’s family would like to thank his long-time caregiver and friend, Maureen O’Melia, for all she did to make his later life richer.
Steve’s life will be celebrated on November 16, 2023, with a visitation at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from noon until the 1 p.m. service.
Immediately following the service, refreshments will be served in the Hildebrand Banquet Room.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s memory to the YMCA of the Northwoods, Rhinelander.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343.
