Carol Jean Kucaba Hoerchler, age 81, of Greenville, N.C., formerly of Rhinelander, died on Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.
She was born on December 9, 1941. Her parents were Geraldine and Edward Kucaba.
Carol is survived by her daughters Susan (Chris Galtress) Hoerchler and Catherine (Edwin) Nance, her son Michael (Beth) Hoerchler, her grandchildren Callie and Lindsey, her sister Geraldine “Chickee” Bunkoske, and her brother Dennis (Sandy) Kucaba.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick John Hoerchler, and her parents.
Carol was introduced to Fred by her brother Dennis when they were just 13. She married the love of her life in 1964 and she and Fred celebrated 55 years together. They owned and operated the Three G's Resort for more than 30 years, eventually selling as condo units.
Carol’s passions were cooking, gardening, singing, painting, fishing, and spending time with her granddaughters. She also never met a doggie she didn’t love. She and Fred spent a lot of time at the cabin they built in Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Canada enjoying lots and lots of fishing on Lake of the Woods. In her later years, she and Fred escaped the Wisconsin cold spending some winter months in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Carol was a faithful servant of God through the Catholic church and was proud to send her children to what was then Rhinelander Catholic Central and see her granddaughters also attend the same school now known as Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School.
