Joyce E. Gibson

Joyce E. Gibson, age 77 of Rhinelander, died on October 27, 2023, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born in Portland, Maine on April 1, 1946 to Lyman and Francis (Pitman) Ela. Joyce grew up and attended schools in Fryeburg, Maine. She graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1964. She married William “Bill” G. Gibson in 1970. 

After they were married they moved to North Conway, New Hampshire and lived there until 1981. They lived in Ironton, Ohio until 1986 and then moved to Rhinelander.

Joyce attended Nicolet College where she earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development. She was employed at Pat’s Day Care for many years. She retired from Pat’s Day Care and went to work at Danner’s Shoe Store. She worked at Danner’s for many years. Besides working at Danner’s, Joyce enjoyed reading and traveling. She loved to travel to visit her granddaughters. She also enjoyed traveling to Maine to spend time at the Gibson’s summer home and to Hilton Head, South Carolina to visit her brother. She loved her family but most of all her granddaughters.

Joyce is survived by her husband William “Bill”, sons Joshua (Stacey) Gibson of Stoughton, Noah (Abby) Gibson of Mount Airy, Maryland, granddaughters Abby, Ingrid, Charley, and Maddie, brothers Bill (Kathy) Ela, and Doug Ela, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. Tommy.
