White edges Zdroik to claim Eagle River B-Mod opener
The race was marred by five caution flags within the first circuit. In the early going it appeared Michigan's Dave Dishaw was on his way to victory. However, his machine stalled halfway through the event, handing the lead over to White on the restart. White scored the win with Zdroik, Tad Schoonover, Austin and Geoff Zdroik placing second through fifth, respectively.
Zdroik gained a bit of redemption later in the night, however, as he pulled off a pass on a restart on Tomahawk's Travis Friske to score the Late Model feature win.
Defending Stock Car champion David Blackberg of Eagle River came out swinging on opening night. The Eagle River racer took the lead at the drop of the green and never relinquished the top spot en route to a 20-lap stock car feature finish. Wausau's Kevin Bogdonavic and Eagle River's Ryan Glembin placed second and third, respectively.
Cody Potter made the long haul from Pell Lake worthwhile as he captured the Street Stock feature. Phillips' Devin Fries skillfully weaved his way through lapped traffic and fought off Brent Mindock on a restart with six laps remaining to claim the Pure Stock feature.
Phelps' Dustin Kangas swept action in the 600 Micro Sprints, winning both the heat race and the caution-free 15-lap feature. Miken Iverson of Galesville and Escanaba, Michigan's Bentley Richer captured the wins in the 300 Micro Sprints. Jason Torney swept action in the Dairyland Vintage racers.
Eagle River Speedway will return to its regular, weekly Tuesday night schedule beginning Tuesday, June 6. The first green flag flies at 7:30 p.m. For further information fans are advised to check the track's Facebook page.
