Lillian E. Marckx, of Rhinelander, formerly of Summit Lake, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023 at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital with her family by her side.

She was 96 years old.

She was born on July 2, 1926, in Frankfurt, Germany, a daughter of Friedrick and Anna (Hauck) Eilber. She married Frank Butzin on Nov. 6, 1953. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1990. She married John Marckx on Sept. 28, 1991. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2015.

Lillian came over from Germany when she was 22 years old. She lived in Milwaukee until her retirement from Badger Meter Company. She and Frank built a retirement home in Summit Lake.

Lillian was a seamstress for many years, making priest vestments, bridal gowns and, of course, clothing for her children and grandchildren. Her love for animals was a huge part of her life. She had a soft spot in her heart for every animal, especially her cats, Henry and Charlie, and all of the many animals she had in the past.

She had a sense of humor like no other, keeping her family laughing consistently. She was a long-time Green Bay Packers fan and watched all the NFL games. She loved playing Dominos and cards with her family. She also loved bowling and bowled in leagues for many years garnering many awards. She was also an avid reader, always with a book in her hands. She had many good friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Mangerson of Rhinelander; son, Thomas (Juanita) Butzin of Horicon; five grandchildren, Terry Galecki, Matthew (Amy) Plautz, Mark Plautz, Lisa Seidl and Robert Butzin; four great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Debbie Marckx; and stepson, Dave (Bonnie) Marckx.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ursula Puerling; son-in-law, Judge Mark Mangerson; and grandson-in-law, Erik Seidl.

A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho with Rev. Arul Kennedy Gaspar officiating. Following the Mass, burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Summit Lake. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.

A huge thank you from the family to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and aids at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital, as well as hospice workers that lovingly cared for Lillian until her death.

Bradley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences at www.bradleyfh.com.
