On Friday, May 19, 2023, Punk joined the love of his life and dance partner Ruth "Big City Miss Ruth Ann" while surrounded by his family in his home.

Cy was born in Newbold, on December 2, 1933, to August and Anna (Meyers) Kubesh. He was raised in Rhinelander.

At the age of 19, he started working at the paper mill in Rhinelander and 43 years later, he retired.

On Sept. 18, 1954, Cy married his best friend and the love of his life. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together. They raised their family in Rhinelander.

In addition to working at the mill, Cy always had a second job, but his favorite one was when he owned his garbage route because "things were always picking up." He was proud to see his work ethic had passed on to his daughters.

Punk enjoyed many hobbies such as playing cribbage, ice fishing, hunting, and woodworking, to name a few. He was a self-taught woodworker. "They sought him out for precision hand-made frames, shelves, cars, and other things". As a kid he had a passion for motorcycles and cars and later snowmobiles. He took them on many family trips.

In 1976, he received special recognition from the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce for leading snowmobile trips from Wisconsin to Minnesota.

After retirement, Cy and Ruth wintered in Palm Springs.

Time spent helping and being with family was important to him. But most of all, Punk loved dancing the jitterbug with his wife, "Big City". If there was music, you would be sure to see them dancing. Many times, their driveway became the dance floor, because their house was known as the "gathering place" for family and fun.

Punk's sense of humor, genuine concern for others, and down-to-earth attitude made him someone everyone wanted to be around, especially at the mill. Among family you knew that "Gramps or Uncle Punk" loved you by his joking and teasing. He had a unique nickname for each grandchild.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Rob Glinski) Hansen of Eau Claire, Dawn (Greg) Dalka of Rhinelander, Kelly (Richard) Herman of Harshaw, and Brenda (Mike) Susor of Neenah; 11 grandchildren: Kari "Care Bear", Katie "Katie the Lady", Jesse "John-waba-suba-hawk" Brett "Emil", Dusty "Augie", Sammi "Ole Black Sam", MaCaela "Princess", Mathew "Buckaroo", Amber "Ambor", Jennifer and Adam; 16 great-grandchildren, Taylor "Tater-bug", Payton, Madison, Arie, Isabella, Ceasia, Jaxon, Brady, Brooklyn, Michael, Spencer, Maxwell, Mathew, Lillian, Emma, Eli, and Angela; siblings, Ed "Eddie Boy" (Pat) Kubesh of Rhinelander, Roger Kubesh of Rhinelander, Georgie Kubesh of Rhinelander, sister-in-law, Jojo Moes of Eagle River.

Also surviving are many nieces, and nephews who and relatives and many cherished lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Anna Kubesh, an infant daughter, Roxanna, his loving wife Ruth, mother-in-law, Edna "Granny Grunt" Reader, brother, Dick "Knocker", and by two sisters, Kitty Barber, and Barbara Ann Kubesh.

Punk's family appreciates those who were so generous with their time to help maintain his house and yard to allow him to remain in his house which he was so proud of.

A huge thank you to Compassus for their support.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family would like you to spend time with loved ones and share a laugh as Cy would have. Also, please share a memory you had with him on the website.

A private Celebration of Life will be held.

As Punk would begin and end his phone call, "Talk to Me and Toodaloo".

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343.

Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
