Russell met his wife Susan in 1970 through his sister Rosalie who was her best friend and they were married on June 19, 1972. Russell worked at Concrete Products, Marplex, later retiring from Red Arrow. Russell had a love for music and Rhinelander history, posting old photos and newspaper articles on Facebook for many to enjoy. Russell was a die-hard football fan and loved "his" Packers. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching wildlife in his backyard accompanied by his four-legged companions Bella and Lucy.
What he will be most remembered for is his love for his family.
Russell is survived by his wife Susan, his son Brian Smith (Elizabeth), his daughters Vicki Gonzalez and Melissa (Thomas) Walters, his nine grandchildren, Leandro, Hope, Miguel, Abby, Signey, Ella, Grace, Brady and Carley, his sisters Christine Martin, Rosalie (William) Braun, Brenda Stacy and Renee (Neal) Anderson, his brother Kenneth (Nancy) Smith, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Stephen, Michael, Gary, and Darrell, and his sister Noreen Smith.
