RHS sports recap: Monday, May 15
James Heck went 3 for 5 with five RBIs and the RHS baseball team used a seven-run fourth inning to pull away and beat Tomahawk 11-3 Monday at Kahle Field in Tomahawk.
The first eight batters of the fourth inning reached safely, capped off by Heck's two-run single as Rhinelander went from down 3-2 to up 9-3. Cody Everson also had a two-run single in the inning, part of a two-hit day. Max Ratty went 2 for 5 at the plate and earned the win, allowing three runs on four hits over five innings.
Rhinelander (5-11, 3-7 Great Northern) will host Tomahawk in the rematch on Thursday.
Golf: Rhinelander 4th/7, GNC Meet No. 6
The Hodag golf team finished in the middle of the pack Monday, shooting 356 to take fourth in the penultimate leg of the Great Northern Conference tournament at Trout Lake Golf Club in Arbor Vitae.
Only two strokes separated the Hodags' five golfers. Andrew Henrichs snuck into a ninth-place tie with a round of 88. Braden Mork shot a career-best 89 to tie for 12th with Sam Schoppe. Brody Kowieski and Blake Petroff each shot 90.
The conference tournament wraps up Tuesday at Inshalla Country Club in Tomahawk.
