RHS sports recap: Saturday, May 13
The Rhinelander High School girls' soccer team built is postseason resume on Saturday with a pair of wins against regional opponents as they went 2-1-0 and took third place in the Waupaca Invite.
Rhinelander started the day with a 5-0 win over Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia before losing in the semifinals 3-1 to Menasha. The Hodags rallied to take the third-place match over New London 7-0.
Ava Lamers scored twice against Amherst and the Hodags also got goals from Sophie Miljevich, Morgan Van Zile and Shayla Coppenger. Leah Wiegel had the Hodags' lone goal against Menasha. Miljevich and Van Zile both recorded hat tricks against New London an Alison Birk added a goal.
Rhinelander (10-4-0, 6-1-0 Great Northern) travels to Northland Pines on Tuesday.
Golf: Rhinelander 6th/19, Merrill Best Ball Invite
The Hodag golf team shot 336 and took sixth Saturday in the Merrill Best Ball Invite at Merrill Golf Club.
Brody Kowieski had the best individual day for Rhinelander, shooting 78 to take eighth individually. Andrew Henrichs and Sam Schoppe both shot 81st to tie for 16th and Blake Petroff shot 96. In the best ball portion of the event, Henrichs and Schoppe shot 72 to tie for sixth. Kowieski and Petroff shot 76 as a team, tying for 12th.
The Hodags will take part in the sixth leg of the GNC tournament Monday at Trout Lake Golf Club in Arbor Vitae.
