Don Hoppe, a Lions Club member since 2001, was recently awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship.
It is the highest form of recognition to acknowledge an individual's dedication to humanitarian service, according to a Lions Club press release.
Hoppe has served as past president and secretary of the Rhinelander Lions and has held other positions within the club.
Lion Don Theisen was awarded a Birch-Sturm Fellowship in recognition of his commitment to the community.
"The fellowship is named in honor of the only two presidents of Lions Club International from Wisconsin - Frank Birch and Clarence Sturm," the release states.
Theisen received a fellowship plaque and lapel pin acknowledging his service.
The Rhinelander Lions Club contributes to or sponsors the following activities: Leader Dog Program for Blind, Wisconsin Lions Camp for Blind, Oneida County Eye Care Fund, Rhinelander High School Scholarship, Camp Birchrock, Babe Ruth Baseball, Rhinelander Soccer Club, Hodag Water Shows, Badger Boys State, Post Prom, Rhinelander Alpine Ski Team, Alzheimer's Association, YMCA, Prevention of Domestic Abuse, vision screening for children, Community Christmas Dinner, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, U.S. Highway 8 cleanup, July 4th Kiddie Parade, HeadStart Christmas gifts, Christmas music for elderly, used eyewear collection, White Cane Awareness Days, Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing and the Lights of the Northwoods.
