Girls' soccer: Rhinelander 4, Medford 0

Ava Lamers scored twice in the second half as the Rhinelander High School girls' soccer team pulled away to a 4-0 victory at Medford Tuesday night.

The Hodags led 1-0 at the half on a Sophie Miljevich goal in the 16th minute. Lamers scored on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute, Morgan Van Zile added a tally in the 56th minute and Lamers rounded out the scoring in the 63rd minute.

The Hodags outshot Medford 18-4 in the match and had an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Mya Krouze made two saves in the win.

Rhinelander (8-3-0, 6-1-0 Great Northern) has scratched out of a non-conference game at Marshfield on Thursday and will compete next in a tournament Saturday in Waupaca.

Softball: Mosinee 11, Rhinelander 4

A six-run sixth inning proved to be the difference on Tuesday as the RHS softball team fell to Mosinee 11-4 at Andrea Musson Field.

The Hodags were tied at 1 after three innings, but Emily Verhasselt gave Mosinee the lead on a two-run home run in the fourth inning and Mosinee put up its big inning as the first five batters reached via a combination of walks, hit batters and errors.

Addi DeMeyer walked seven, hit two batters and allowed eight runs on six hits over five-plus innings, striking out eighth in defeat. Maddi Roeser was 2-for-2 with a RBI in the game while Laney Haenel added a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.

Rhinelander (8-12, 4-7 Great Northern) closes out conference play Thursday at Lakeland.

Boys' tennis: Rhinelander 5-7, Medford 2-0; Rhinelander 4, D.C. Everest 3

The Hodag boys' tennis team went a long way toward wrapping up another Great Northern Conference title on Tuesday, sweeping Medford 5-2 and 7-0 in a pair of conference matches at the RHS tennis courts. The Hodags helped their postseason resume, too, thanks to a 4-3 win over D.C. Everest as part of a busy day of tennis.

The Hodags trotted out different lineups for all three matches. The Hodags swept doubles and split singles in the first match against Medford, which including a 3-6, 6-1, 13-11 win for John Currie at No. 1 singles over Medford's Brayden Balciar, who was previously unbeaten in GNC play.

Against Everest, the Hodags swept doubles and got the clinching point from Gavin Denis at No. 3 singles as he used a second-set tiebreaker to claim his match in straight sets.

Rhinelander (14-6, 6-0 Great Northern) hosts Antigo on Thursday.

Track: RHS boys 1st/5, girls 2nd/5, Tomahawk Invite

The Hodag track team won its first meet of the season on Tuesday, claiming nine events and taking the boys' division of the Hatchet Invite in Tomahawk. Rhinelander won three events and finished second in the girls' division.

Truman Lamers won the high jump and the triple jump for the Hodag boys, Kaleb Winter took the pole vault and the long jump, Abe Barlog won the 110-meter hurdles, Cody Ruetz claimed the 400 and Cyrus Leisure won the 800. Rhinelander also scored wins in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.

Gussie Gruett claimed the girls' 400 meters while Libbey Buchmann scored the win in the discus. Rhinelander also won the 4x400 relay with the team of Reese Gehrig, Violet Biolo, Aila Bergman and Gruett.

The Hodags are home on Thursday to host the Hodag Invite at Mike Webster Stadium.

Golf: Rhinelander 3rd/7, GNC Meet No. 4

The RHS golf team shot a season-best 325 on Tuesday and took third in the fourth leg of the Great Northern Conference tournament, hosted by Antigo at Bass Lake Golf Club in Deerbrook.

Andrew Henrichs led the way for Rhinelander, taking fifth overall with a 5-over round of 76. Brody Kowieski also scored conference points, placing eighth with a round of 79. Sam Schoppe shot 83, Blake Petroff shot 87 and Braden Mork fired a 93 to round out the Hodag scoring.

The Hodags return to action Friday in the fifth leg of the conference tournament at Eagle River Golf Course.
