RHS sports recap: Thursday, March 30
Softball: D.C. Everest 6, Rhinelander 3, Game 2
The RHS softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader Thursday night in the Hodag Dome, falling to D.C. Everest 19-0 and 6-3 in non-conference play.
Everest scored 13 teams after the bases were empty with two out as part of a 14-run second inning in Game 1. The Hodags failed to record a hit as Addison Kluck struck out eight of the nine batters she faced.
Everest scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to break a 3-all tie in Game 2 and added an insurance run in the fifth. The Hodags had the bases loaded with less than two outs in both of those innings but failed to score a run.
Addi DeMeyer went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Game 2. Abigale Johnson and Libbey Buchmann collected two hits each. DeMeyer took the loss in both games, giving up 10 runs on eight hits in two innings in game 1, and six runs (three earned) on five hits over 4 1/3 innings in game 2.
Rhinelander (2-3, 0-0 Great Northern) has had its game against Antigo on Tuesday postponed. The Hodags will play again Thursday when they host Northland Pines in the Hodag Dome.
