RHS sports recap: Friday, March 24
Softball: Marshfield 10, Rhinelander 0
The RHS softball team split its final two games of the Danny Mac Softball Classic on Friday, finishing second in its eight-team bracket in the Hodag Dome. The Hodags won their semifinal game against Clintonville, 7-4, before falling to Marshfield 10-0 in the championship game.
Rhinelander took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning against Clintonville all without the aid of a hit and then tacked on a pair of insurance runs int he fourth. Lily Treder and Laney Haenel both had two hits in the contest while Addi DeMeyer was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. DeMeyer picked up the win, allowing four runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts over seven innings.
Marshfield scored in every inning against the Hodags, winning via the 10-run rule. Haenel took the loss and was one of four Hdoags to pitch in the contest. Abigale Johnson had Rhinelander's only hit in the contest.
The Hodags (2-1, 0-0 Great Northern) have postponed their GNC opener scheduled for Tuesday against Medford and will host D.C. Everest this coming Thursday.
