RHS sports recap: Thursday, March 16
The Rhinelander High School track team kicked off the season with a pair of third-place finishes Thursday in the Wisconsin Rapids Quad indoor track meet.
The Hodag girls finished only 7 1/2 points behind first-place Wisconsin Rapids and won four events on the night. The team of junior Nicole Long, sophomore Lexi Bishop and freshmen Aila Bergman and Millie Gruett won both the 4x133-meter and the 4x400-meter relays. Rhinelander also took 1-2 in the shot put with freshman Libbey Buchmann and senior Abby Swanson while Maria Hubler took first in the 1,600. Bergman added a runner-up finish in the 50-meter dash while senior Juliana Smith was second in both the 400 and the 800.
Rhinelander's best finish on the boys' side came in the 4x400 with a runner-up showing Kaden Huber, Payton Campbell, Daniel Gillingham and Cody Ruetz. Ruetz and Gillingham finished third and fourth in the 400 and Abe Barlog was third in the 50-meter hurdles.
Rhinelander is back in action next Thursday at the Ashland Indoor.
