Oneida County seeks input on Outdoor Recreation Plan
By Beckie Gaskill-bjoki@lakelandtimes.com
Respondents to the survey can be as specific as they would like about various trails and activities available on county lands as well as what improvements they would like to see. The survey begins by asking each respondent about the recreational activities in which they participate. There is also an opportunity for respondents to choose other activities that may not be listed. Respondents are also asked to list three areas where they believe there is potential for development or enhancing activities on county lands.
County Parks
Some of the questions in the survey are specific to certain sites. Almon County Park, Perch Lake County Park, Townline Park, Gillette-Wickham Lakes Recreational Area and Enterprise Campground all have their own sections of the survey. Respondents are asked about the types of activities in which they are involved at each location and how often they utilize those county parks. The survey also asks respondents to comment on potential for each site they utilize.
Recreational water use
Next the survey asks respondents about their recreational water usage. Respondents can choose their level of use as well as the activities in which they participate. This includes everything from boating and swimming to silent sports such as canoeing and kayaking. The survey also asks for input on public boat landing and water access improvements that might be needed.
Silent Sports
Silent sports are also addressed in the survey. Respondents are asked how often they use various silent sports trails in the county during both summer and winter. They are also asked about the activities in which they participate.
Motorized use
Snowmobile trails and ATV/UTV trails take up the last section of the survey. Respondents are asked if they partake in either of these activities and their level of interest in them. They also have an opportunity to rate their satisfaction with opportunities available for this type of recreation, as is true with all types of recreation in the county addressed in the survey. Again, the survey asks for opinions and ideas on how to improve this type of recreation in the county.
The survey concludes with a generic comment section. Respondents are asked to list any other comments about Oneida County managed facilities. There is also a place to write any general concerns or comments. Respondents are asked to compete the survey by April 9, 2023.
