According to a WBCA press release, the organization modified and expanded its academic all-state program this year. New for the 2022-23 season, academic all-state recognition requires that nominated athletes be varsity players from any grade level and hold a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale). These players will receive a WBCA certificate from their school.
The WBCA also have an Elite Academic All-State team, that will select 15 senior boys and 15 senior girls based on both their academic achievements and their on-court performance.
"This is the best of the best combining all aspects of what it means to be a student-athlete," the WBCA stated.
Elite Academic All-State honorees will be announced at a later date.
