During the Feb. 21 primary, Petra Pietrzak, Scott Ridderbusch Bradley White finished in the top three spots.
Nick Vos and Machiechok tied for fourth with 127 votes.
The tie itself was a surprise for many and so was the fact a primary was needed to begin with.
"Never in my 12 years as clerk have we even needed to have a primary," Newbold town clerk Kim Gauthier told the River News.
Three days after the primary, on Friday, Feb. 24, she conducted a tie-breaker by way of a coin toss that Machiechok won.
Vos had the option to request a vote recount and did so. The recount took place on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
"It took about four hours," Gauthier said. "The vote totals stand with the exception of subtracting one vote due to election staff error. The machine totals stand and the official results are posted on our website."
