A fourth-grade math teacher with the Minocqua Hazelhurst Lake Tomahawk (MHLT) school district was arrested last week for alleged possession of child pornography.

According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), Luke Aschbrenner, 45, Arbor Vitae was arrested Thursday, March 2 for one count of possession of child pornography.

The DOJ press release stated a search warrant of Aschbrenner's home was executed on March 2.

"The warrant was the result of a child sexual abuse material (CSAM) cyber tip originating at Aschbrenner's home internet service," the DOJ press release said.

As a result of the search, he was taken into custody and transported to the Vilas County Jail.

The DOJ press release asked anyone with information related to the case to contact the Minocqua police department at 715-356-3234.

The Minocqua police department was one of the agencies involved in an investigation into Aschbrenner headed up by the DOJ's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation were the Vilas County Sheriff's office and the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.

Aschbrenner will be prosecuted by the Vilas County district attorney's office.

According to MHLT school board secretary Carol Melms, Aschbrenner is in his seventh year of teaching at MHLT.

As of press time, there was no word regarding disciplinary action against him by the district.
