Wayne was born to Norman and Therese King on July 11, 1951, in Rhinelander, where he remained for the duration of his life. Wayne belonged to the 1969 class of Rhinelander High School and continued his education to later become Fire Chief of Pelican Fire Department, serving for 20+ years. Wayne also worked for, and retired from, the City of Rhinelander where he served as a mechanic for 35 years.
Wayne was a devoted father, father-in-law, loving brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. In his free time, he loved all things outdoors including shooting trap, hunting, fishing and cross-country skiing and camping. He also enjoyed riding and working on any vehicle he could get his hands on, including his motorcycle and antique vehicles, along with helping his grandkids learn about their own cars when the time came. When he wasn't outside, he would be found inside watching his favorite sports teams or watching westerns.
Wayne loved his family and put them above everything. He was a loving and devoted father to Renee (Alex) Nylund, Jon (Jenny) King, Jamie (Warren) Jacobs and Benjamin Des Jarlais, a doting brother to Jean Maney, a dear uncle to Shane Hurkmans and Denise (Bob) Doleshal, an adored brother-in-law and uncle to the entire Spark's family, a proud grandfather to Dakotah (Bryce) Jacobs, Cordell King, Jared (Lacey) Jacobs, Miranda (Evan) Erdmann and Caden King. On September 10, 2010, he married his best friend Susan Sparks, and they spent their forever in Rhinelander.
In 2019, Wayne was promoted to great-grandfather with the addition of his great-granddaughter Quinnley.
Wayne is united in Heaven with his parents, Norman and Therese King, aunt, Alice Lilla, brothers-in-law, John Maney, Patrick "Whitey" Sparks, and his mother and father-in-law, Valaria and Luke Sparks.
