Tyler Chariton hit his second home run of the summer for Rhinelander's Northwoods Babe Ruth Senior League team on Monday night, but it was not enough for the Hodags, who fell 13-7 to Crandon at Stafford Field.

Chariton took a 1-1 pitch to deep to left field in the seventh inning of Monday's game - a shot that accounted for the final two runs of the contest. He also cleared the fence in Rhinelander's opener June 5 at Eagle River-3 which, to date, is the Hodags' lone win of the summer.

Rhinelander kept pace with Crandon's offense in the early innings, but the Hodags were held off the scoreboard, and out of the hit column, from the third through sixth innings while Crandon pulled away.

The Cardinals took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning, breaking a 5-all tie. They tacked on two more runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

After Crandon scored a run in the top of the first inning, Rhinelander jumped out to its lone lead of the game in the bottom half of the inning. Hoyt Dantoin drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs and Asher Rivord then hit a two-run single up the middle to give Rhinelander a 3-1 advantage.

Crandon answered with four runs in the top of the second. The Hodags tied the game with two in the bottom half of the frame. Johnny Turek singled and scored on a wild pitch. Ryley Hull walked and beat a high throw to the plate off an Aden Flannery bunt.

Dantoin took the loss for Rhinelander, giving up five runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts over two innings of relief. Josh Willoughby started on the mound and lasted two innings. He allowed five runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Johnny Turek pitched the final three innings, giving up three runs on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Crandon outhit Rhinelander 9-5 in the contest. In addition to hits by Rivord, Johnny Turek and Chariton, Mason Schmidt went 2-for-3 in the game and scored twice for the Hodags.

Rhinelander (1-4) was scheduled to host Eagle River-3 Wednesday night in a game that concluded after press time for today's edition. The Hodags will travel to face Eagle River-2 this coming Monday night.

Rhinelander's Prep League team (5-1) was idle early this week, and jumped back in action last night in a game that Crandon that finished after press time. The Hodags will travel to Phillips next Tuesday prior to a pivotal doubleheader with league-leading Tomahawk-2 (3-0) at Stafford Field next Thursday.
