Rhinelander avenged its only loss of the season to date on Thursday, scoring nine runs in the fourth inning to blow past Tomahawk-1 13-7 at Stafford Field in Northwoods Babe Ruth Prep League play.

The Hodags improved to 5-1 on the season and have won five straight since losing at Tomahawk-1 11-5 back on May 23.

Rhinelander trailed 5-4 until a string of errors, walks and timely hits propelled the Hodags to a big inning in the fifth. Dylan Webster started that inning by reaching on an error. After Henry Schmitz walked, Daniel Meier reached on an error to short that brought in Webster. From there Trevor Denton and Douglas Hartmann hit back-to-back RBI singles and scored when Blake Bauer and Tommy Eades reached on a pair of two-out errors. Vince White added a two-run double and Johnny Baker capped off the inning with a two-run single.

The first few innings went back and forth. Rhinelander took the lead in the first as Brayden Dervetski singled and scored on a Eades base knock. Tomahawk took the lead with two in the second before Rhinelander tied it on an RBI fielder's choice to shallow center by Michael Brunette with the bases loaded.

Tomahawk plated three in the third inning, aided by a pair of hits, two walks and two run-scoring passed balls. Rhinelander closed back to within a run in the bottom of the third as Bauer singled and scored on an Eades ground out and Dervetski singled and scored on a passed ball.

Tomahawk added two runs in the seventh inning to account for the final margin.

White picked up the win for Rhinelander, striking out six and not allowing a hit over 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Eades started and went 2 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on three hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Senior Leaguers fall to Lakeland

Rhinelander's senior league team gave up five runs in the sixth inning and fell to Lakeland 10-9 Wednesday night on the Hodag JV baseball field at Rhinelander High School.

A dropped third strike proved costly as it allowed Justin Sero to each base to lead off the sixth inning. A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases with nobody out. Though Rhinelander pitcher Mason Schmidt was able to strike out back-to-back batters from there, Jack Stella hit a two-run single and Max Keuer hit an RBI double to bring Lakeland within a run. From there, Stella scored on a passed ball and Keuer scored on a throwing error on the same play to gift Lakeland the lead.

The Hodags got only one runner on over the final two innings. Zach Webster singled in the seventh and eventually wound up at third, but back-to-back strikeouts by Allen Wisnewski and Aden Flannery ended the rally.

Rhinelander jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second as Johnny Turek singled and scored on wild pitch. Asher Rivord walked and scored on a Riley Hull single. Declan Adams walked and scored on a passed ball and Hull came around thanks to a throwing error.

Lakeland collected four straight hits with the top of their order to make it 6-5 in the fifth, Rhinelander scored three runs in the bottom of the inning as Wisnewski reached on an dropped third strike and scored as Jack Turek reached on an error. Turek later came around on a throwing error after stealing third. Hoyt Dantoin added a bunt single and scored on a two-out single by Josh Willoughby. Schmidt, serving as Willoughby's courtesy runner, was thrown out at home trying to score on a Johnny Turek single.
