"The town of Lake Tomahawk was pleased to host a ribbon cutting and appreciation celebration on Saturday, June 3, for the recently completed link in the connection to the DNR's Clear Lake Bike Trail. Perfect weather and great music greeted the large crowd that gathered to mark the occasion. This trail is the latest accomplishment of the Oneida County Biking and Walking Trails Council's efforts to make our area a destination for silent sport enthusiasts," said George DeMet, Lake Tomahawk town chairman.
The fundraising for the project included individual donors as well as businesses and foundation grants and donations that made the project possible. Signage recognition of major donors is at the beginning of the rehabbed trail and in the kiosk at the Lake Tomahawk Visitor Center.
"Biking is an integral part of the local economy from bike sales to repair, eating at restaurants, visiting local attractions, and lodging," said Jackie Cody, OCBWTC president.
A community that becomes bike friendly can expect to benefit in three ways: Improved public health, higher property values, and increased business, according to studies included in the Center for Community Economic Development, University of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Bike Federation.
