Rhinelander committed seven errors in the fifth inning, allowing Eagle River to score 12 times in the frame and breaking open what was a 1-1 tie at that point in the contest.
Rhinelander scored a run in the third inning to tie the game as Chandler Servent led off with a double, moved to third on a Josh Willoughby ground out and scored when Tyler Chariton reached on a dropped fly ball in center field.
The Hodags managed only three hits in the game, two of which came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Asher Rivord led off that inning with a hit up the middle and scored when Allen Wisnewski reached on a two-out infield hit to second.
The Hodags used five different pitchers in the contest. Hoyt Dantoin worked the first two innings, giving up a run on two hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Josh Willoughby pitched the third and fourth for Rhinelander. He scattered two hits and struck out three in a pair of scoreless innings.
Jack Turek, Tyler Chariton on Johnny Turek all saw time on the mound for Rhinelander in the fifth inning.
Rhinelander (1-1) will play Prentice in a non-conference game tonight at Stafford Field and then host Lakeland in league play on Wednesday.
The Hodags' Prep League team played at Eagle River on Thursday, winning 12-2. Further details from the game were not available as of press time for today's edition.
Rhinelander (3-1) will travel to Lakeland on Tuesday at host Tomahawk-1 on Thursday.
