Though the season ended for the Rhinelander High School girls' soccer team on Thursday, it found out shortly thereafter that several of its players earned all-Great Northern Conference honors.

Seven players earned recognition as the conference announced its awards for the spring on Friday.

Senior Ava Lamers was voted conference co-offensive player of the year and was one of three Hodags on the first team along with sophomore Sophie Miljevich and junior Emma Chiamulera.

A trio of juniors - Leah Jamison, Morgan Van Zile and Mya Krouze - earned second-team honors and senior Annalyse Schoppe received honorable mention.

"They earned it. In my opinion there should have been a couple more on there like always, but that's the way the system is and the way they do it, but I'm happy with the girls that did get the awards," coach Nathan Bates said. "We should have had a couple more than that. All we can do is keep trying every year. They're the ones that deserved it."

Lamers and Miljevich were both unanimous first-team selections.

Lamers led the GNC in scoring for the second year in a row, tallying 21 goals and eight assists. She shared offensive players of the year honors with Lakeland's Maria Gironella.

"I think the unanimous decision was well-earned last year as well as this year, in my opinion," Bates said. "I'm pretty biased, but I believe she should have had (offensive player of the year) last year based off of clear stats throughout the conference, but she got it this year and got a good parting gift as a senior, which I think is awesome."

Miljevich was second to Lamers in scoring in the conference. She led the GNC with 16 assists to go along with her 14 goals. Chiamulera anchored a Hodag defense that was second in the GNC with six goals allowed.

"(Sophie) came in second this year in the conference when it comes to player stats, and top of the conference on assists. She had a great year herself as well," Bates said. "Emma, she's a beast in the defensive back there. You can't argue that. She's, in my opinion, the best in the conference back there at defense and she got a unanimous decision for that."

Jamison had a goal and five assists in GNC play while Van Zile had four goals and three assists. Krouze, the Hodags' starting goalkeeper, finished second in the GNC in both save percentage (.829) and goals against average (0.62).

"Mya Krouze, stats don't lie, she had a great year again to get the second-team award. Morgan Van Zile as well, last year to this year, Mo has stepped it up a huge amount," Bates said. "Leah Jamison, she worked hard. She put in a lot of time in the offseason by herself and everything else, you could tell from last year to this year. I believe LJ deserved it and I was proud she was able to get it. She made an impression on the other coaches."

Like Chiamulera, Schoppe was a key figure on the Hodags' defensive line this season.

"Annalyse getting honorable mention, Anna did a good job and she deserves that. I think she should have got more than that, but I'm not going to complain," Bates said.

Lakeland's Callie Ullius was voted defensive player of the year and Medford's Tayna Tessmann took coach of the year honors.

The All-GNC girls' soccer team was the last of the spring all-conference teams to be announced. The vote took place during a May 28 coaches meeting, but the coaches requested that the list be withheld until all conference schools completed WIAA tournament play.

Rhinelander (14-6-0, 8-2-0 Great Northern) was the last GNC team eliminated, falling to Ashland 4-1 Tuesday in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal.
