Free workshop for shoreland owners in the Northwoods

Do you own lake or river shoreline? Are you interested in learning about how to best maintain and improve it, or even preserve it for the future? If so, you are encouraged to attend a free workshop for shoreland owners on Monday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Northwoods Center in downtown Eagle River. The topics that will be covered by three Vilas County-based organizations include:

• Maintaining water quality through shoreland best practices and restoration options (vegetation management and erosion control). Mariquita Sheehan, Conservation Specialist, Vilas County land and water conservation department.

• Permanent shoreland and upland conservation options for private landowners including the basics of conservation easements. Kari Kirschbaum, Land Protection Director, Northwoods Land Trust.

• Programs and resources for new shoreland property owners and lake associations. Tom Ewing, President, Vilas County Lakes & Rivers Association.

Pre-registration is requested by going to www.northwoodslandtrust.org. Navigate to the news and events page and there you'll find the workshop with a link to register. A light lunch will be served.

This workshop is being coordinated by the Northwoods Land Trust as a part of their Shoreland Protection Initiative. Shoreland owners in northern Wisconsin - those with sizable properties and extensive natural shoreline - are encouraged to learn more about permanent conservation options by calling 715-479-2490 and visiting www.northwoodslandtrust.org.
