FORK fundraiser: Bidding underway for classic 2002 Lexus
"This classic car was donated to FORK to help us raise money to provide nutritional support to children from food insecure homes within the Northland Pines, Three Lakes, and Phelps school districts," explained FORK President Perry Pokrandt. "The FORK Board of Directors felt that a closed bid auction was the best way to generate interest in the fundraiser, as well as the efforts of FORK to help kids."
Bidding starts at $3,500 as a minimum. The Lexus RX 300 has less than 60,000 miles and has never seen snow as it was a "lake home" car for the last two decades, Pokrandt said.
"Similar cars on Carfax, with more than two- to three-times the mileage, sell for $6,000 to $8,000," Pokrandt said. "Projected mileage with proper maintenance on an RX 300 should be expected to be between 250,000 and 300,000 miles before repair costs become prohibitive. Vehicle photos are available online at feedourruralkids.org/lexus or the car can be viewed in person at the Northland Pines Middle and High School's rear parking lot, next to the building trades house in Eagle River.
Bidding for the car will close at midnight on Wednesday, June 21.
"FORK will reach out to the highest bidder on June 22 via phone and email," Pokrandt said. "The winning bidder will then have 48 hours to make payment in full."
Failure to make payment by the deadline will result in the bid being awarded to the next highest bidder.
Two viewing dates and times have been established for individuals to test drive the car. The first is scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, from 6 to 7 p.m., and the second will be June 21, from 9 to 10 a.m.
The winning bid will be posted on FORK's Facebook page, as well as online at feedourruralkids.org on June 22.
