Students learned that due to rainfall, freshwater is not distributed equally around the world. They were asked the question: How do people persuade others to take action to contribute to a better world? They brought their learning to life by sharing facts from their research about the struggles people in Africa face in order to gain access to water, a School District of Rhinelander press release said. Students then challenged their schools to a Penny Challenge.
Their efforts raised $2,672.37 between the two schools.
Inspired by these young humanitarians, an anonymous donor from the community gave an additional $1,500 to the cause, the release notes.
"Between the generosity of the students in the schools and the humbling community donation, the third graders will be able to once again have a well dug in Africa. This will be the third year in a row of providing a well in Africa. We truly are Hodag Strong when we work together!" the release states.
