According to Rhinelander Fire Chief Brian Tonnancour, the fire department was called to 722 Newell Street at approximately 2:07 p.m. for a reported porch fire.
Upon arrival, the home was fully engulfed, Tonnancour said.
"Rhinelander Fire Department was able to initiate a fire attack to the rear of the structure and protect exposures," Tonnancour said in a press release. "The occupant of the home was able to self-egress when the fire was discovered. Pine Lake, Pelican Fire Rescue and Newbold Fire Departments were requested to assist via the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS)."
One responder was treated for heat exhaustion on-scene, but no further medical care was requested, the chief noted, adding that the house is considered a total loss.
The Red Cross is providing temporary shelter to the two residents who were displaced, he added.
The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.
"The Rhinelander Fire Department would like to thank the Rhinelander Police Department, Pine Lake Fire Rescue, Pelican Fire and Rescue, the Red Cross, WPS, Oneida County EMS, and the Salvation Army for their quick response to the scene and assistance to the affected residents," Tonnancour added.
