ArtStart to hold Sock Hop street dance June 15

A special treat is coming later this month for all those who remember the '50 sock hops and all those who would like to experience some retro fun.

ArtStart is throwing a Summer Sock Hop Street Dance in downtown Rhinelander.

The street dance will take place outside of ArtStart on King Street from 5 to 8 p.m. June 15.

Tickets are $12 and support ArtStart.

"We are so excited to hold this fun, summer family event." Ashley McLaughlin, programs and operations director, said in a press release announcing the dance. "We hope everyone will come out to support ArtStart, dance to the music, enjoy food, drinks and community camaraderie."

The event will feature music from The Tinglers, a rockabilly/American roots music trio specializing in '50s rock-n-roll. Their repertoire includes hits from Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley. Attendees can purchase a soda or treat from the "soda shop"; classic cars will be on display; food, beer, and wine will also be available. Kids will be invited to participate in an art project. Everyone who buys a ticket will be entered to win a door prize.

"We encourage guests to bring a water bottle for our water station and a chair, for when you need a break from dancing," the release states.

"We also hope everyone will dress up!" McLaughlin added. "We'll have a little costume contest during the evening. Two winners will be awarded best dressed and receive a Culver's gift card."

Tickets are $12, with kids admitted free.

Tickets will be available at the event and at artstartrhinelander.org.
