RHS sports recap: Saturday, June 3
The Rhinelander High School girls' soccer team got the last laugh on Great Northern Conference rival Lakeland on Saturday night.
Ava Lamers scored on a breakaway in the 65th minute and the Hodags defeated the T-Birds 1-0 in a WIAA Division 3 Regional final contest in Minocqua.
Lamers capitalized when a Lakeland defender misplayed a clearance as she dibbled in to score the lone goal. Though Lakeland had a 16-11 advantage in total shots, the Hodags held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Mya Krouze made seven saves in the win for Rhinelander.
The Hodags (14-5-0, 8-2-0 Great Northern) will travel to top-seeded Ashland on Thursday in a sectional semifinal match.
