Summer is nearly here and Downtown Rhinelander Inc. is preparing to give the city its yearly floral boost by hanging flower baskets in the downtown district.

"The gorgeous hanging baskets created by Forth Floral, with the help of the Master Gardeners, are essential to beautifying our downtown," according to a DRI brochure explaining the project. "Our streets during the Christmas season are spectacular, glowing with festive lights. The flower baskets and other plantings provide the special look for the summer. Because of your generous support, along with a grant from the Rhinelander Community Foundation, we were able to purchase new baskets to simplify the watering requirements. The cost of sponsoring a flower basket with summer care remains $100. Many of you have chosen to give a basket in honor or in memory of someone, which is a wonderful way to remember special people in our lives."

The success of the project, which began in 2007, depends on the contributions of local individuals, businesses and organizations, according to the brochure.

The annual cost to support a flower basket and summer care remains $100, however donations of any amount are greatly appreciated, organizers stressed.

To make a contribution, include your name, address, phone, email. Also note if you are donating in honor or in memory of someone.

Checks should be made payable to Downtown Rhinelander Inc., PO Box 1638, Rhinelander, WI 54501. Please note "Beautification" in your memo line.
