Ava Lamers was the class valedictorian and Olivia Gillen was the salutatorian.
In his welcome speech, district superintendent Eric Burke lauded the Class of 2023 "as truly something special".
To illustrate the point, he read a series of questions and asked those who fit the description to stand. He asked how many members of the class participated in a club or organization that positively impacted the community, how many scored a 28 or higher on the ACT test, how many earned college credits while in high school, how many worked a job while in high school (nearly the entire group stood when this question was asked), how many were APāscholars, how many built a house for Habitat for Humanity, how many were members of a conference championship team, qualified for state or were an individual state champion or part of a team state championship, competed at the national level, and how many are planning to serve in the military.
The final question was how many of you are happy to soon be an RHS graduate. The entire group stood up in response.
Burke's final advice to the group was to do good for others, be all in, and say yes to opportunities. Living a life of service will make one's own life better, there is a difference between halfway and truly working hard, and people who say yes to opportunities find even greater opportunities to make things happen and reach new heights, he said.
"Each one of you has it within you to make the world a better place," he added. "How you go about it is up to you."
