Less than a week after defeating the Chicago All-Stars, the Snowhawks (3-0) weren’t so lucky on Monday night as a storm rolled into town at the wrong time.

The Snowhawks’ game vs. Wickman Construction lasted just a half inning at Snowshoe Park in Lake Tomahawk. The game was called after the top of the first due to inclement weather.

“We wanted the people that did show up to at least see something. Yeah, we were cut short,” player/coach Jeff Smith said. “That storm looked like (it was going) to track south instead of going east. It took a turn on us. We didn’t luck out on this one.”

Wickman Construction had a 1-0 lead when the game was called. They opened the game with consecutive hits.

“The other team at least got a chance to run around a little bit and get familiar with (the snowshoes),” Smith said. “They started out hitting the ball. They had some real nice, legit hits.”

Due to a tight schedule, the only way Wickman Construction can be rescheduled is if another team cancels. Otherwise they’ll have to wait till next year.

“If a team drops or cancels for any reason, I would have to find a team for that day, more than welcome to make up that game,” Smith said. “It’s unfortunate for the fans. We get lucky a lot of times on Mondays, but this one we couldn’t dodge.”

The schedule resumes as normal next week with Black Bear Bar on Monday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Lake Tomahawk.

“They’re looking forward to it. Last year we had to take them off the schedule. I felt bad, but this year no way I could take them out,” Smith said. “Gunner Dunbar plays for Black Bear on Thursdays so I think he’ll suit up for Black Bear. That’s a new, young team, and they’re a bunch of good hitters too. It’ll be fun.”
