Tribal police, FBI agents among those who searched for missing LdF girl
A child believed to have been abducted from the Lac du Flambeau Reservation on the afternoon of Friday, July 7, was found safe several hours later.
A press release from the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police Department said the seven-year-old girl is with her family “and foul play is no longer suspected.”
Police initially received a report indicating the child had been the subject of a stranger abduction.
An Amber Alert was issued and a search for the missing girl began. Tribal police were aided in their efforts by agents and law enforcement officers from the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, the Vilas County sheriff’s office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
More than 50 law enforcement officers as well as agents of the Tribal Surveillance Department and Lake of the Torches Surveillance Department assisted.
Community members also helped by providing critical information and security camera footage.
The girl was found safe shortly after midnight on July 8.
