Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, right, visited the First Steps Early Learning Center in Rhinelander Thursday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2023, to discuss efforts to increase access to quality, affordable childcare in Wisconsin. During last week's State of the State address, Gov. Evers announced he will be proposing a more than $340 million investment in the Child Care Counts Payment Program to make the program permanent, as well as more than $22 million for the Partner Up! Grant Program. Throughout the pandemic, providers in Oneida County received more than $2 million through Child Care Counts, and the First Steps Early Learning Center received more than $180,000, according to the governor's office.
