Rhinelander's Iain Rumney competes in the classic race of the Hodag Nordic Challenge at the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom Saturday, Jan. 21. It was the first day of a two-day event that brought more than 350 middle and high school skiers to the area.

On the girls' side, sophomore Brynn Teter led the way for the Hodags. She was 29th in a field of 61 varsity skiers, clocking in at 22 minutes, 24 seconds in Saturday's 5K classic race. Freshman Kayla Skubal was 47th (23:53), senior Olivia Gillen was 58th (27:03) and sophomore Luna Grage finished 60th (28:22).

Freshman Olin Slette led the Hodag boys, taking 39th on the day (18:53) in a field of 89 skiers. Travis White finished 77th (21:17), Charlie Loomis was 80th (22:05) and Rumney was 83rd (22:20).

Sunday's freestyle pursuit took place after deadline for today's edition. Look for a full report in Friday's River News.
