Hodag Snack Attack is one of three kids programs run by the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry (RAFP). The other two programs are the Hodag Food Wagon and Weekend Food For Kids
"RAFP started the Hodag Snack Attack last year with the goal of assisting the school community to provide additional nutrition to students as needed. We know students learn best when they are not hungry." Smith said in a press release announcing receipt of the FORKâEndowment Fund check. "We appreciate Feed Our Rural Kids' (FORK) financial support of this program."
Currently the Hodag Snack Attack program provides healthy, kid-friendly snacks during the school day to students within the School District of Rhinelander elementary and middle schools, the release states.
"The mission of the FORK Endowment Fund is to provide these financial or food gifts to organizations across Vilas and Oneida counties whose purpose, like FORK, is to provide food to children from food insecure homes," explained FORK Endowment Fund Committee Chairperson Nic Weight. "RAFP's Hodag Snack Attack is just the kind of effort, to feed kids, that we believe in."
In addition to the FORK Endowment Fund, FORK also manages five of its own nutritional support programs directly serving children within the Northland Pines, Three Lakes, and Phelps School Districts.
FORK's Family Food Helpline, 888-479-FORK (3676), a partnership with the Oneida and Vilas County Departments of Social Services, provides food insecure families a go-to source for locally available nutritional support information.
"The Hodag Snack Attack Program within the School District of Rhinelander is growing in importance to the educational staff as well as the children in their care, and we urge individuals to continue their financial support of these good works," said Weight. "The challenge our children face is great, while the cost of pushing back against childhood food insecurity is even greater."
