For much of Tuesday, the Rhinelander High School boys' and girls' basketball teams thought they would have games that evening, despite less than ideal winter weather.

That changed late Tuesday afternoon when it was announced both teams' games - RHS boys' basketball at Medford and RHS girls' basketball versus Medford - were postponed after Medford nixed its after school activities for the day. The contests have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31.

In the meantime, both teams scrambled to get in some practice time in Tuesday at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium. Pictured, Jordan LeGere puts up a jump shot over James Heck during RHS boys' basketball practice Tuesday, Jan. 3.

"You really don't gain a practice on a night like tonight. We find out about an hour before the end of the school day, so you're just trying to put together some kind of practice and compete a little bit," RHS boys' basketball coach Derek Lemmens said. "It just starts to pile up where you start to lose opportunities to improve but, at the end of the day, this was the right call tonight."

Both teams return to action tonight at home in a doubleheader against Lakeland. The Hodag girls will tip off at 6:15 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 8 p.m.
