Stetson Grant found guilty of stalking, disorderly conduct
Former Oneida Co. deputy was charged with 11 counts
By Trevor Greene-
The 36 year-old Grant, who's employment with the sheriff's office ended in August of 2021, was found guilty on one count of stalking and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
Court records show nine other charges against him were dismissed.
According to the criminal complaint, Grant was accused of calling a woman as many as 50 to 150 times a day and entering her home on multiple occasions after he had been asked to leave.
Audio recordings police were able to obtain have Grant using "abusive and profane language" while being repeatedly asked to leave by the woman.
There are occasions, according to police reports, where the woman said Grant would stand in the doorway and block her from leaving the residence.
The complaint also alleges the former deputy made statements such as "I am the law" and "OK, I am the (expletive) cops" when the woman would threaten to call law enforcement.
Some incidents included Grant punching holes in walls and cabinets of the residence, but from an interview with investigators, Grant said the woman wasn't present when this took place. He also stated that, as an owner of the property, he believed he could enter the premises and damage his own property.
Grant, the complaint notes, was in uniform and on duty with the sheriff's office when some of the alleged incidents took place.
Oneida County circuit court judge Michael Bloom scheduled a sentencing hearing for April 28 at 2 p.m. after the verdict was read.
Grant remains free on a $10,000 signature bond and is not to possess any firearms.
For the felony, Grant faces maximum penalties of a fine not to exceed $10,000 or imprisonment not to exceed three years and six months, or both.
