Rhinelander Area Food Pantry announces annual Spring Challenge

Once again the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry is challenging local residents to contribute to the annual RAFP Spring Challenge. Two local families, who wish to remain anonymous, have agreed once again to make a partial match for all donations or pledges received from March 1 through April 30, according to an RAFP press release.

"This is an excellent way to make your donation go farther and provide even more help to area families in need," the release stated.

RAFP Executive Director Guy Hansen said he is excited to announce this year's event and wishes to remind everyone that donations may include cash, checks and food items (valued at $1.00 per item or pound) received during March and April.

"Typically at this time of year donations are lower, but the need remains high, so the annual Spring Challenge helps bring attention to the continuous needs of the food pantry," the release states. "That is especially true this year with the reduction of government assistance to families, so they are turning to the food pantry for even more help to feed their families."

The Rhinelander Area Food Pantry has been serving area families for the past 17 years and has distributed in excess of 9 million pounds of food.

To help the food pantry with their RAFP Spring Challenge, monetary donations can be made to Rhinelander Area Food Pantry c/o BMO Harris Bank, P. O. Box 280, Rhinelander, WI 54501.

Food items may be dropped off at the food pantry at 627 Coon Street from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.
