Hodag gymnasts compete with two at conference
Leighann Hoople was not available due to a family commitment, according to coach Kristina Aschenbrenner, leaving the Hodags with only two gymnasts for the meet. Wendy Fronk and Leta Cole finished 14th and 15th in the all-around with scores of 26.125 and 25.3, respectively.
Cole had Rhinelander's best individual finish of the day, taking 12th on uneven bars (6.3). Fronk led the way for Rhinelander in the three other events. She was 15th on both floor exercise (7.025) and balance beam (6.85) and 16th on vault (7.45).
"Our first event was bars and Leta came out really strong, posting her highest score of the season with a 6.3," Aschenbrenner said. "Wendy had another consistent bar routine, adding back a skill she had taken out the previous meet and has been working on in practice. Our beam routines had one fall in each, but there are definite improvements that were made. Wendy improved upon her floor score from last week. Both had solid vaults with stuck landings."
Ashland (131.15) edged Antigo (129.675) for the meet and overall Small Division title. Mosinee was third (120.55) followed by Lakeland in fourth (79.65). Mosinee's Avery Ahles and Ashland's Tessa McFarlane (33.425) tied for the individual all-around title.
The Hodags will compete in a WIAA Division 2 sectional meet at Antigo this coming Friday.
