LdF Tribe purchases old Burger King for $1.4 million
The Lac du Flambeau Business Development Corporation (LDFBDC), an entity of the Lac du Flambeau band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, recently purchased the property which occupies the building that formerly housed a Burger King in Minocqua on U.S. Highway 51 north.
According to its website, LDFBDC includes seven companies — LDF Holdings, Ojibwe Market, Lac du Flambeau Campground & Marina, Workforce Training Center, Woodland Cannabis LLC, Simpson Electric and Eighth Fire Communications.
Capital Minocqua closed on the property’s land contract on Dec. 13, according to Oneida County land information office director Sara Chiamulera, before selling it to LDFBDC.
Chiamulera said the transfer fee was $4,200 and the property sold for about $1.4 million.
According to the LDFBDC’s website, its goal is to develop businesses “that provide career paths for citizens of the Lac du Flambeau Tribal community, embodying Tribal goals and objectives, while respecting the Tribe’s cultural values.”
The LDFBDC’s mission, the website says, is to diversify the Tribe’s non-gaming revenue sources as well as creating career opportunities for its community.
LDFBDC marketing manager Zachary Allen told The Lakeland Times the purchase represents “an exciting new chapter in our ongoing commitment to growth and community enrichment”
Allen said specific details of plans for the building are unavailable at this time, but referred to the acquisition as “strategic.”
“Our primary objective is to leverage this property to expand and enhance our current business initiatives,” he said. “Moreover, we see this endeavor as one that will eventually create new job opportunities and strengthen the local area economy. We are genuinely excited about the potential opportunities that lie ahead.”
More on the LDFBDC’s plans for the property will be shared with the Times when available, Allen said.
