Dorothy Ann Vanney of Tomahawk, and a former Rhinelander resident, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Tomahawk Health Services, at the age of 91.
She was born in Eau Claire on July 17, 1932, the daughter of Meredith (Sandy) H. and Dorothy B. (Miller) Larson. Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of Rhinelander High School. She was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) F. Vanney on November 24, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rhinelander.
Dorothy enjoyed family gatherings, pontoon boating, playing cards, shaking dice, and spending time with family & friends at the “Shack”, located at their home on the Wisconsin River. Dorothy and Dick loved their family and always offered a warm welcome to everyone that visited their home. She was a member of a bowling league, jarts team, card clubs, and many other social clubs, events, and gatherings. She volunteered at Newbold Elementary School and was employed by Bert’s Resort, Francesca & Bob Kaulum, Campbell’s Clothing Store, and Walmart.
She is survived by her children: Paula (Vanney) Drivas, Michael Vanney (Dawn Larson) and Peter (Amy) Vanney, all of Rhinelander, brother Roger (Kathy) Larson of Texas, and sister Janet (David) Taleff of Wisconsin. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Jessica (D.J.) DeMeyer, Jason (Beth) Drivas, Josh (Janine) Drivas, Sheila Vanney (Kevin Crumley), Angela (Chris) Adams, Fran Vanney (Derik Houle), Rick (Samantha) Vanney, Kyrle Vanney, Kaden Vanney, Kendall Vanney; 13 great-grandchildren, Addi DeMeyer, Lila Bielefeldt, Anna Drivas, Joel Drivas, Perla Drivas, Milo Drivas, Juniper Drivas, Brooklyn Drivas, Steele Drivas, Madelyn Drivas, Sean Crumley, Annie, and Maddie; a brother-in-law Tom Vanney, sister-in-law Darlene (Vanney) Terzinski, sister-in-law Vanja Larson, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons Steve Vanney and Jeff Vanney, and by brothers, Richard (Jude) Larson, Thomas Larson, Dale Larson and Donald Larson.
No formal services are planned.
