Dietz

Micky Dietz passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Rennes Health & Rehab Center in Rhinelander at the age of 76.

He was born on May 4, 1947, in Chicago, and attended schools in Rhinelander, graduating in 1965. The first of five children to Conrad “Connie” and Ruth (Mlady) Dietz, Mick lived and worked on Country Drive in the town of Newbold. His father started Dietz Construction in 1948 and that’s where Mick perfected his trade of master carpenter, working with his father and brothers, Steve and Rich. He loved working with wood and made beautiful pieces of furniture, cabinetry, tables, and many other projects for people throughout the years. In his spare time, he looked forward to a trip to a casino, usually accompanied by his good friend, Bob Michaels. He also visited Las Vegas many times.

Another favorite pastime was trout fishing. Micky’s best friend and fishing partner, Kye Carver, looked forward to their early Saturday morning fishing trips to their favorite local trout stream or spring pond. A good game of cribbage, reading a book, doing crosswords, or watching one of the hundreds of movies/DVDs he collected filled up his life in retirement.

Micky was a rather quiet man with a sense of humor. He always had a quirky, whimsical way of adding his opinion to a conversation, always ending with a chuckle and a smile.

Mick is survived by his brother, Rich (Deb) Dietz of Rhinelander, sister, Nancy Rey of Westland, Mich., nieces, Vanessa, Jessica, Holly, Tricia and Michelle, nephews Tim, Danny and Paul and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Ruth, brother Steve and sister Cathy.

A private service will be held in the spring at the Newbold Cemetery.

Mick’s family wishes to thank the aides, nurses, and Dr. Millikin for the compassionate care he received in the past two weeks of his life. You were all so kind.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
