Dana “Dan” Raymond Kemp

Dana “Dan” Raymond Kemp, age 78, of Rhinelander, died on Monday, December 11, 2023 at his home. Dan was born in Milwaukee on February 7, 1945, a son of Raymond and Marie (Reiken) Kemp.

On July 10, 1965, Dan was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barbara Kingsbury.

Sgt. Kemp honorably served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years during the Vietnam war. Dan was stationed at numerous locations including Vietnam, Korea, Germany, Texas and more. He was awarded multiple Army Commendation Medals for Meritorious Service.

After living in many locations for Dan’s military career, they moved to Rhinelander to continue to raise their family. Dan loved to work with engines and cars and worked for a number of years for Birginal Motors and eventually retired from the Rhinelander Auto Salvage.

Dan was a family man who cherished his roles as father and grandfather. His hands, skilled and wise, left a lasting mark on those around him. He enjoyed keeping busy with woodworking projects, many of which he gave to his family members. He was always there to help his family, especially with those car troubles. His spirit lives on in our shared moments and the lessons learned.

He will be missed dearly by his family, all in the Rhinelander area, including his daughters Sherri (J) Harder and Kristine (Bill) Cover; grandchildren Amber Randall (Mike), Ashley Randall, Dave (Lauren) Sackett, Shawn Harder, Justin (Anna) Kemp, Kasi Cover (Justin), Pauline Harder and Sariah Cover; his 17 great-grandchildren Aubrielle, Addilynn, Amari, Jr., Malachi, Imani, Kamiya, Sawyer, Hunter, Charlie, Scarlett, Kylee, Natalie, Bentley, Braelyn, Oliver and Aniya. 

He is further survived by his sister Wendy Phippen of Goodman; his nieces and close family friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; his parents; his siblings Gary and Patricia; and his grandson, Tony Sackett.

Visitation for Dan will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with memorial services following at 1 p.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Reverend Mark Klaisner will be officiating.
