Boys’ basketball: Wausau West 68, Rhinelander 59
The Rhinelander High School Boys’ basketball team nearly made up a 13-point second half deficit, but faded in the final minutes to a 68-59 loss against Wausau West in non-conference play at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Three free throws by Will Gretzinger made it a 60-59 game with 3:02 remaining, but the Hodags turned the ball over on their next trip down the floor, leading to a Griffin Lange layup and the Warriors iced it from there.
Truman Lamers had 22 points to lead three Hodags in double digits. Will Gretzinger had 17 and Devon Feck added 14. Brett Butalla paced Wausau West with 27.
Rhinelander (5-2, 3-0 Great Northern) travels to Merrill on Thursday.

Another freshman, Sam Aschenbrenner took third in the all-around (26.5) while Smith and Gillingham tied for fourth.
